Carers Rights Day Theme 2025

The national campaign, Carers Rights Day, will be held on 20 November 2025, with the theme set to be: “Know Your Rights, Use Your Rights”.

Each year, the day brings organisations across the UK together to help carers in their local community find out how to get the help and support they are entitled to. Hosted by Carers UK, the event raises awareness among the UK’s 5.8 million unpaid carers.

Carers UK highlighted that every day, around 12,000 people become unpaid carers for a partner, family member, or friend — many of whom do not recognise themselves as carers or know their legal rights and entitlements.

Existing Rights for Carers Include:
  • The right to unpaid Carer’s Leave
  • The right to request flexible working
  • The right to ask their GP practice to identify them as a carer
  • The right and choice to request a free flu jab
  • Protection against discrimination or harassment
  • Requesting a carer’s assessment
  • Being consulted when the person you care for is discharged from hospital

The charity is also campaigning to make caring the tenth protected characteristic under the Equality Act, alongside introducing clearer rights against discrimination, stronger recognition for carers, and a fairer social security system to help carers live free from poverty.
